He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That they may offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness.” (Malachi 3:3)
The silversmith will sit in front of the fire the entire time the silver is being refined. Not only does he hold the silver, but he must keep a very close eye on it through the refining process. If it was to stay in the flame too long it could be damaged.
How does the silversmith know when the silver is fully refined? When he sees his image in it!
“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:29)
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)
