Shoes of Peace

Ephesians 6:15 (TPT)
“Stand on your feet alert, then you’ll always be ready to share the blessings of peace.”

Today we are going to touch on the third piece of armor, the Shoes of Peace. Roman soldiers' shoes were no ordinary type of shoe. They were made of brass or bronze, and consisted of two pieces, the greave, and the shoe itself. Their shoes were dangerous to any enemy!

The greave is a tube-like piece of brass or bronze that actually started at the top of the knee that extended down the leg and rested upon the top of the foot. These were customized to the actual soldiers legs and when put together with the shoe made it appear as if they were wearing solid brass or bronze boots.

Now the shoe was constructed of two pieces of metal, the top and bottom of the foot was covered with fine pieces of brass. The sides were held together with multiple pieces of durable leather. Now the bottom of the shoes were designed with very dangerous spikes that were no less than an inch long, and even longer in many cases. Soldiers assigned to active combat typically had three inch spikes that would assist in close quarter combat!

So why would Paul compare these extremely dangerous combat shoes to peace? It seems that he understood just how amazing peace is as a weapon, both offensive and defensive. Peace not only protects us, but it gives us a weapon to bring against the enemy when he attacks. When used correctly, the weapon of peace will keep spiritual enemies right where they belong, UNDER OUR FEET!!! Only takes one solid kick to crush the enemy!

The only way to remain in peace no matter the circumstance is to know what the Word says about the peace we have in Christ Jesus! Peace gives us a solid foundation we can step out with faith, not being moved by what we hear or see. This type of aggressive peace gives us the ability to come face to face with the accuser or any challenge without fear!

There is much much more to uncover about the Shoes of Peace, but I pray this motivates you to go dig and see what the Word of God says!

Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 16:33

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Philippians 4:6-7

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

 2 Thessalonians 3:16
“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.”
