MRE- Acts 8:17

Acts 8:17 (NLT)
“Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.”

Today’s verse shows us the power of the laying on of hands. Scripture is clear in many verses about the laying on of hands, and the power of God that is imparted. I am going to share just a few.

Here we see Jesus lay His hands on the children to bless them.

Mark 10:16 (NKJV)
“And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.”

Here we see Jesus laying His hands to heal.

Luke 4:40 (NKJV)
“While the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and laying His hands on each one of them, He was healing them.”

Here we see Moses lay hands on Joshua to appoint him to God's calling

Numbers 27:23 (NKJV)
“And he laid his hands on him and inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.”

Deuteronomy 34:9 (NKJV)
“Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.”

Here we see the apostles lay hands on the seven men chosen to lead the daily distribution of food.

Acts 6:6 (NKJV)
“whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them.”

Paul lays hands to impart healing

Acts 28:8 (NKJV)
“And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him.”

Paul reminding Timothy the spiritual gift he received through the laying on of hands

1 Timothy 4:14 (NKJV)
“Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.”

The laying on of hands is also referred to as the law of contact and transmission. When a child of God is under the anointing their hands transmit the power of the Holy Ghost to impart blessings, healing, and deliverance! This is why the Lord desires to baptize all of His people with the Holy Ghost, to empower them to walk out the Great Commission.

Matthew 10:7-8 (NKJV)
“And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”

Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV)
“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
