MRE- Luke 8:7

Luke 8:7 (NKJV)
“And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.”

Today we are going to see about the third type of soil Jesus is teaching on in His parable. Again just like the last two days we need to read forward a few verses to see the interpretation of the thorny ground.

Luke 8:14 (NKJV)
“Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.”

Luke 8:14 (TPT)
“The seed that falls into the weeds represents the hearts of those who hear the word of God but their growth is quickly choked off by their own anxious cares, the riches of this world, and the fleeting pleasures of this life. This is why they never become mature and fruitful.”

So we see a soil that is fertile, however the good seed is being mixed with weeds (which always grow faster). The thorns choked out the good grain and did not make a productive crop.

This is what I call the "carnal Christian". They are carnal minded, led by their flesh and not by the Spirit. They come to church with all the right Jesus shirts, and bumper stickers, but they talk all the junk of the world! Their mind is set upon all the glitz, glamor and gluttony of it.

Scripture is clear about mixture with the world, it’s ideas, systems and way of life.

Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)
"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Romans 8:7 (NKJV)
“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.”

James 4:4 (NKJV)
“Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

‭‭I John‬ ‭2:15-17‬ (‭NKJV‬‬)
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

Again it’s about being sold out to Jesus, just as He said deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow Him!

Blessings in Jesus Name!!!
