Matthew 8:13 (NKJV)
“Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour.”

Today's verse is one where we need to back up some verses and get the full context of what Jesus is teaching.

Matthew 8:5-13 (NKJV)
“Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour.”

This Roman centurion commanded 100 men in a Roman army. Some of you may be thinking, brother the scripture didn’t tell us that, so where is this coming from? Well… scripture tells us he is a centurion. Now in a Roman army, a legion was nominally composed of 6,000 soldiers, and each legion was divided up into 10 cohorts, with each cohort containing 6 centuria. The centurion nominally commanded about 100 men, and there were 60 centurions in a legion.

So this man fully understood military authority. His servant was sick, and he recognized the authority of Jesus’ words. He knew that the Lord could "speak the word” only and the servant would he healed. This agrees with a verse we find in Psalm 107.

Psalm 107:20 (NKJV)
He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

There was yet another time where Jesus commended a believer of their great faith.

Matthew 15:28 (NKJV)
“Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.”

What is interesting is that both the centurion and the woman in Matthew 15 were Gentiles!

When Jesus said that many will come from the East and the West, and will sit in the Kingdom with Abraham, East and West were the directions of the Gentile nations. He is prophesying that large numbers of Gentiles will be coming into the Kingdom, while many of His own people would be cast into outer darkness. Jesus spoke the word, and the centurion's servant, who was sick at home, many miles away, was cured the same hour!

Have faith in Jesus, His Word is POWER!

Be Blessed in Jesus Name!!!
